Support for Families

This is a new pilot project with North Yorkshire County Council Integrated Services. Support is provided to families through visits, telephone support and signposting (to other organisations) using a network of volunteers acting as 'family friends'. The project co-ordinators have been working directly with families and this is providing an excellent indicator for how volunteers can and will be used in the future.

Wendy Smith, Joint Project Co-ordinator, says "Families need a helping hand with a wide variety of issues including post-natal health and well-being. For example we can help a young mum to regain self-confidence and self-esteem or support a single parent to take their two little children swimming together. We are able do this in a friendly and cost-effective way."

The team is working closely with other professionals to raise the profile of the project, increase referrals and target a wider client group.
