Castle Community Office

It has been an exciting year at the Office, based in Scarborough Market Vaults. A grant through North Yorkshire Learning Consortium enabled an upgrade of the IT facilities for computer-based learning. A further grant from Tesco Charity Trust has funded the delivery, by volunteers, of a well-received programme of Over-50's Beginner's Computer Classes. Yorkshire Forward funding has enabled volunteers to complete an accredited course – 'Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector'.

A weekly hand-sewing class has also been well attended.

A new Big Lottery funded project 'Growing Opportunities', which supports food-growing in Scarborough by way of a land-share scheme, got up and running in February 2010. The Office continues to offer low cost internet access and office services and to provide a base for a range of information leaflets and other resources.
